There are MANY ways to damage and destroy compact discs, but just ONE way to repair and protect them.
|
It's easy to make a CD.....
Compact discs begin as clear polycarbonate discs (1). The disc's digital information, which allows it to play music, run computer programs or play movies, is stamped on the top of the plastic disc. Next, (2) a reflective foil is placed on top of the digital information. Then a clear lacquer (3) is spread to protect the foil and data. Finally, (4) a graphic or label is printed.....and even easier to destroy one!
Damage to the top 3 layers of a CD can ruin the product. A scratch can dig into the digital information, which can never be repaired. As a result, your CD will skip or stop playing altogether. Scatches to the bottom, or shiny side, of a CD are merely on the plastic. They will still cause your CD to skip, but can be repaired with CD Repairman technology.
